Two modest but interesting news items from CHRC

Hello,

There are two modest but interesting news items from CHRC that we’d like to share with our members and the mailing list recipients as well as forwarding a message from Heritage Canada.

First, we are happy to announce that CHRC has secured a second round of funding from Heritage to offer another 50 Respectful Workplaces in the Arts workshops in this new fiscal year!

You’ve guessed it, we’re going to hold off on delivering these for a short (or longer) while due to travel restrictions and social distancing but we’ll be looking at booking these workshops as soon as we can.

A big thanks to Heritage for keeping this project going. The funding allows CHRC to deliver these workshops at little to no cost to host organizations.

Second, our Talent to Lead’s 4th edition has been launched in both French and English thanks to funding from the Canada Council for the Arts. This cohort has 20 mid-career cultural sector managers from racialized, indigenous and official language minority groups matched to 20 mentors for an online learning and sharing experience which will continue till November 2020. We are happy to team up again this year with HEC Montréal and HR Williams for the webinar content and program delivery.

An important message from Irene Cheung, Policy Advisor, Office of the Minister of Canadian Heritage:

The Government of Canada is providing $500 million in 2020-2021 to establish a new COVID-19 Emergency Support Fund for Cultural, Heritage and Sport Organizations to help address the complex financial needs of affected organizations within these sectors.

The Fund is meant for organizations that can’t qualify for the existing wage subsidy because of the lumpy or irregular nature of their revenues as well as to cover contract workers. The Fund will also provide advances on future grants and contributions to help maintain liquidity as well as small subsidies to cover some fixed costs.

Eligible organizations and businesses include:

  • Canadian not-for-profit cultural, heritage and arts organizations
  • National Sports Organizations, Multisport Service Organizations, and Canadian Sport Centres and Institutes
  • Canadian journalistic organizations
  • Canadian book publishers
  • Canadian production companies that work in the film or television industries
  • Organizations in the music industry
  • Television and radio broadcasters
  • Recipients of the Digital Citizen Initiative
